Red Hat (NASDAQ: RHAT), the world's leading provider of open source
solutions, today announced that RLPTechnologies has achieved success
using a combination of Red Hat and JBoss solutions. Running a grid
computing environment on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise
Middleware Suite for a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform,
RLPTechnologies has experienced an increase in data-file processing
performance by 70 percent, increased scalability by 400 percent and
enriched the timeliness, accuracy and quality of the company's
automotive data.
RLPTechnologies is a wholly owned research and development subsidiary of
R.L. Polk & Co., the premier provider of automotive information and
marketing solutions to the automotive world and its related industries.
RLPTechnologies is dedicated to deploying world class data-driven
technology products that support customers' needs to turn vast amounts
of data into business value with accuracy, speed and security. It
specializes in building industry-leading data solutions that serve as
the foundation for research, analysis and action across multiple
industries.
“With our new SOA platform, we literally have
a factory that runs 24/7, processing data as soon as it arrives, making
it available for downstream systems immediately,”
said Joe LaFeir, Vice President Product Development at RLP Technologies. “Data
that previously sat on our loading dock for eight hours is now
automatically detected as it arrives and is pushed straight through and
distributed out to applications. The timeliness of that data is
extremely important for our customers, so being able to reduce that time
has been extremely beneficial.”
To date, tests show improvements of up to 70 percent, on average, in
data-file processing speed for RLPTechnologies. Grid computing has
allowed for 100 transactions per second, nearly four times the parent
company's 25 transactions per second, providing room for future
transactions, business growth and processing spikes. The dependable
quality of the chosen solutions has allowed the company to shift focus
from data management to product strategy and application development, a
focus that will support revenue growth.
Additional benefits include cost savings in terms of employees and IT
operating costs. A more cost-efficient and focused group, previously the
Data Operations team, is now operating at a 43 percent smaller size
within the company. Also aiding cost reduction, the move away from a
mainframe-based system to a grid computing model reduced the hardware
costs by 65 percent, ultimately resulting in millions of dollars saved.
Improvements made to the open systems environment are also leading to
additional savings of 30 percent per year.
“RLPTechnologies was looking for a solution
with stability and performance with world-class services,”
said Paul Cormier, Executive Vice President of Engineering at Red Hat. “They
found an excellent solution with Red Hat solutions with an integrated
SOA platform based on open source. We are thrilled that RLPTechnologies
has experienced such performance gains and savings with our solutions,
this is just the beginning.”
