Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider
of next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced that
its SmartEdge(R) multi-service edge routers have been selected by True
Corporation Public Company Limited, formerly Telecom Asia, as the
platform for its next generation broadband IP network infrastructure.
Faced with increasing demand for high-speed broadband internet
connectivity and services, True Corporation Plc., Thailand's largest
broadband operator, needed to evolve its existing Internet
infrastructure to address the growing broadband IP demands of both its
residential and business customers. In addition to accommodating large
scale increases in subscriber numbers, True also revealed aggressive
plans to extend its product range and provide triple-play services
(data, voice and video) in the future.
"Thailand is one of the fastest growing broadband markets in the
world," said Haroon Butt, a senior analyst at Point Topic, a broadband
market research company. "Today, Thailand has deployed more than
400,000 high-speed Internet lines, and is expected to double that
number in the next 12 months."
"When planning our next-generation broadband network, it was
important that the chosen system would not only efficiently scale to
meet the increases in our subscriber base, but also be powerful enough
to provide a foundation for a range of value-added, subscriber-centric
services going forward," said Dr. Viriya Upatising, Chief Technical
Officer of TRUE Internet Co., Ltd. "Redback's SmartEdge multi-service
edge router provides the subscriber and bandwidth scalability we
require, and the performance and intelligence necessary to launch our
new services."
"We are pleased to be a key element in True's broadband vision,"
said Simon Williams, Redback's vice president of sales and operations
for the Asia and Pacific region. "True has a large and rapidly growing
subscriber base that is knowledgeable and demanding. The result is an
audience who readily embrace new broadband based services."
The SmartEdge platform delivers the strength of Redback's advanced
subscriber management capabilities with the SmartEdge platform's
purpose-built hardware and software to provide:
-- subscriber management with dynamic policy enforcement,
-- carrier-class IP routing,
-- ATM and Metro Ethernet aggregation,
-- MPLS VPNs,
-- advanced video capabilities, including multicast, and
-- hierarchical and high performance Quality of Service (QoS)
Redback Networks' NetOp(TM) Policy Manager, a comprehensive policy
management solution working in unison with the SmartEdge multi-service
edge router and other Redback products, is a portal that allows
service providers to quickly define, design and deploy new
value-added, revenue generating services in a risk-minimized,
