Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider of next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced a deal with Kisan Telecom Co. Ltd (www.kisantelecom.com), a Korean manufacturer and reseller of telecommunications equipment. Kisan will manufacture and re-sell a customized version of the SmartEdge® 100 multi-service edge router for Korean customers. The Redback-Kisan routing gear will be used for services such as ‘nomadic’ wireless and mobile broadband access, secure virtual private networks (VPN), voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP), and video conferencing. Under the terms of the manufacturing and distribution agreement, Redback’s deal with Kisan will be initially focused on the Korean market. “Redback has a great history with Korean carriers, such as Korea Telecom (KT) and Hanaro Telecom, deploying multi-service broadband networks based on Redback’s SmartEdge family,” said Simon Williams, vice president of sales and operations for Asia at Redback Networks. “Broadening our market reach throughout Korea is an excellent growth opportunity for the recently introduced SmartEdge 100. We’re excited about this manufacturing and distribution partnership with Kisan initially focused on the Korean market.” Eleven of the top 20 carriers worldwide deploy Redback's SmartEdge family of multi-service edge routers to deliver broadband, phone, and TV services to tens of millions of business and residential customers worldwide.
