Dell Inc. (DELL) is the unnamed "strategic bidder" whose $2.15 billion offer for Quest Software Inc. (QSFT) trumped Quest's deal with Insight Venture Partners, Reuters reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Quest earlier said in a statement that the bidder made a cash offer of $25.50 a share. Quest's merger agreement with Insight is worth $23 a share.
Dell declined to comment to Reuters.
