Annual Event Draws Over 700 Customers, Prospects, Developers and
Partners to Exchange Ideas on Portal Technology Innovation
Plumtree Software (Nasdaq:PLUM) today announced that Mark Carges,
chief technology officer at BEA Systems, is scheduled to be a featured
keynote speaker at Plumtree's sixth annual user and second annual
developer conference, Odyssey+ADC 2005. The October 9-13 event in
Hollywood, Florida is expected to draw more than 700 customers,
prospects, developers and partners.
This year's theme "Create. Connect. Collaborate." embodies
Plumtree's mission to create composite applications that connect
systems and people for collaboration within business processes. It
also underscores the promise of service-oriented architecture (SOA) to
help solve application integration issues within the enterprise.
Attendees of the upcoming Odyssey+ADC 2005 will learn first-hand
how Plumtree customers earned significant return on investment (ROI)
on their advanced portal deployments. In addition to invaluable
networking, this year's event is filled with new product
announcements, customer roundtables and highly targeted business,
technical and developer sessions.
"Portal technology is the delivery vehicle for a new generation of
composite applications," said John Kunze, chief executive officer of
Plumtree Software. "Traditional applications are being replaced by
more nimble, service-oriented architectures with new applications
defined by the parameters of a business process. Our customers
understand that by integrating user needs, IT systems and business
processes via the portal, they have taken the first steps in
delivering a SOA."
"SOA has been described as one of the most important technology
trends affecting global business today," said Carges. "To make SOA a
reality, IT and business priorities have to be aligned within
organizations. By recognizing that the portal has emerged as the
first, and often the most visible, major application in a new
service-enabled enterprise, Plumtree and BEA have a tremendous
opportunity to help guide IT leadership teams. Our expertise can aid
in successful portal implementations, and we have the tools to help
organizations make the overall business case that can demonstrate how
leveraging SOA can drive powerful competitive advantage."
Industry research indicates SOA will become the main approach for
creating and delivering software. According to Gene Phifer, vice
president at Gartner, "Portals provide a fast track to SOA. Through
2007, an enterprise portal will be the first major application of SOA
concepts for more than 50 percent of enterprises."
Customer Survey: Portals and Composite Applications are Key to
Productivity
Findings of a customer survey executed at Plumtree's annual EMEA
Odyssey conference, which took place earlier this year in the U.K.,
further substantiates the importance of composite applications to IT
decision-makers due to the impressive productivity returns they
provide. Over a quarter (28 percent) of Plumtree's survey respondents
believe that by using composite applications they will improve
productivity by 50 percent. However, nearly all (95 percent) agree
that composite applications deliver at least a 10 percent productivity
improvement.
Portal technology plays an integral role in making this happen.
The average Plumtree user-organization estimates that over the next
five years their portal deployment will increase collaborative working
by 54 percent. Many organizations also believe their portal is an
ingrained tool with nearly half (48 percent) claiming that over 10
percent of their collaborative working is driven through it. In
addition to the competitive advantages portals provide, they also
deliver impressive return on investment (ROI). Of those using a
Plumtree solution, a third (33 percent) claim to have generated over
100 percent ROI in less than five years.
