PolyMedica Corporation (NASDAQ: PLMD) today announced that its wholly
owned subsidiary, Liberty Healthcare Group, Inc. (“Liberty”),
the nation's largest mail order diabetes supply company, has entered
into a multi-year National Strategic Partnership agreement with the
American Diabetes Association (ADA). As a National Strategic Partner,
Liberty will support the ADA’s “I
Decide To Fight DiabetesSM" campaign.
The “I Decide To Fight Diabetes”
campaign is focused on inspiring people to live healthier lives and to
make better choices when it comes to preventing and managing diabetes.
The campaign is focused on raising funds to support the mission of the
American Diabetes Association – to prevent and
cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by
diabetes as well as to help people express themselves as part of a
movement to stem the tide against the disease. People with diabetes,
their friends and families, as well as those at risk, are encouraged to
display their commitment by wearing an “I
Decide To Fight Diabetes” charm, t-shirt, or
other item available at the ADA’s web site, www.diabetes.org/IDecide.
“By becoming a National Charter Sponsor of
the ‘I Decide to Fight Diabetes’
campaign, Liberty is helping to amplify the voice of the diabetes cause,” stated
Patrick T. Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of PolyMedica. “Liberty’s
team members are proud to support the American Diabetes Association in
this critical fight against diabetes.”
Liberty will help to further the mission of the ADA and an important
Liberty priority by offering support for the “I
Decide to Fight Diabetes” campaign, which
seeks to inspire and empower patients in leading healthier lives.
Liberty patients will benefit from access to the ADA’s
resources.
“The ADA needs more champions in the fight
against diabetes, and we appreciate Liberty’s
commitment to people living with diabetes and their support of the ADA’s
mission,” said Larry C. Deeb, MD, ADA’s
President, Medicine & Science.
Today, diabetes is America’s number one
health threat:
Nearly 21 million adults and children have diabetes
One-third of them (6.2 million) don't know they have the disease
One in three Americans born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their
lifetime if nothing is done to stem the tide
Diabetes kills more people than breast cancer and AIDS combined
