Mid-Arizona Shetland Sheepdog Club, Inc. to Give Thanks to PETCO




       Two Organizations Focus on Adoption Events, Placing Pets in
                  Homes 4 the Holidays, Throughout Year

   Who:         Wendy Retzer, President of the Mid-Arizona Shetland Sheepdog
                Club, Inc., will recognize PETCO (NASDAQ:PETC) for their
                support of ongoing adoption efforts that help the rescue
                group place homeless pets in lifelong loving homes.  The
                Mid-Arizona Shetland Sheepdog Club supports an active
                sheltie rescue program that rescues and cares for Shetland
                Sheepdogs that have been abandoned, neglected, or abused and
                then places them in permanent, quality, and loving homes.
                Shelties in the program are evaluated for health and
                behavior and then matched to qualified homes that have
                previously submitted adoption applications.  Persons

                Mid-Arizona Shetland Sheepdog Club rescue program or

   Why:         Mid-Arizona Shetland Sheepdog Club, Inc., and PETCO are
                successful partners in educating customers about the need to
                place adoptable animals in homes.  The Club wants to say
                thank you for PETCO's help.  This 'recognition' provides an
                opportunity to also highlight the international "Home 4 the
                Holidays" adoption campaign that runs through the first part
                of January 2004.  The campaign, that involves more than
                1,200 shelters from around the world, hopes to find homes
                for more than 200,000 homeless companion animals so those
                animals can be "Home 4 the Holidays."  If this goal is met,
                the campaign will be the single largest adoption event of
                its kind.

   Story Idea:  This could make a nice feature about the importance of
                animal adoption and would make a nice visual with people and
                pets.
