Cyber Security Industry Alliance Endorses Business Roundtable
Principles for Securing Cyberspace
Principles Designed to Elevate Cyber Security to the C-Level and to Guide
Continual Improvement of Corporate IT Security and Advancement of Public Policy
WASHINGTON, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Cyber Security Industry Alliance (CSIA),
the only CEO public policy and advocacy group comprised exclusively of security
software, hardware and service vendors to address key cyber security issues,
today announced its support of the Business Roundtable's policy principles,
"Securing Cyberspace: Business Roundtable's Framework for the Future." The
principles, which were announced today, incorporate seven recommendations to
guide the continual improvement of corporate IT security and the advancement of
cyberspace security public policy.
The principles elevate the issue of cyber security to the CEO and boardroom
level, note the shared responsibility of end-users and suppliers to secure
information systems, underscore the importance of the Federal government in
fostering collaboration, and call for market solutions over statutory and
regulatory mandates. Details on the Roundtable principles are available at
http://www.businessroundtable.org/.
"The policy principles outlined by the Business Roundtable align with the Cyber
Security Industry Alliance's goal to elevate information security issues to the
C-level and the boardroom within the business community. We believe the
Roundtable has taken a critical step forward to ensure the health of
information systems that support both global economy and individual
businesses," said Paul Kurtz, executive director of CSIA. "We commend the
efforts of the Roundtable in developing these principles, and we will look
forward to working closely with them to implement these recommendations."
The Business Roundtable principles are consistent with and build upon the work
of the National Cyber Security Partnership (NCSP) Corporate Governance Task
Force, which was co-chaired by two CSIA CEOs, Bill Conner of Entrust, Inc. and
Art Coviello of RSA Security. Specifically, NCSP released a corporate
governance management framework in April entitled, "Information Security
Governance: A Call to Action," that challenges companies and institutions to
integrate effective information security governance programs into their
corporate governance processes. The "Call to Action" is available at
http://www.cyberpartnership.org/.
"CSIA will build upon the exceptional work of the Business Roundtable and
National Cyber Security Partnership to implement recommendations and effect
real change," commented Kurtz.
