NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network, and
identity management solutions, today announced the debut of its PIDplus
identification technology to the civil and commercial markets.
Leveraging the technology and industry leadership established with its
Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) offering for law
enforcement, PIDplus extends NEC’s
identification expertise into new markets, providing the software tools
to meet the growing demands for fast, accurate identification technology
of civil and commercial users.
PIDplus incorporates NEC’s best and
latest multi-modal biometrics technology with fingerprint and facial
matching, providing maximum matching accuracy and speed. NEC’s
best-in-industry biometrics algorithms have been validated by the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in a comprehensive
range of tests, so companies that integrate NEC’s
biometrics matching technology can be confident that their products
provide maximum security with highest performance. Backed by biometrics
pioneer NEC, this is the first time such high-performance
multi-biometrics matching technology has been made available for the
commercial and civil markets.
“There’s a growing
need for more thorough security measures, and it’s
crucial that the civil and commercial markets are provided with an
easy-to-integrate and scalable option for their needs,”
said Barry Fisher, vice president, Identification Solutions, NEC
Corporation of America. “Making NEC’s
leading biometrics matching technology available to mainstream users
through PIDplus will simplify the identification process and provide a
level of security that maintains their peace of mind.”
PIDplus is a suite of software-based development toolkits offering
multi-biometrics identification solutions that enable system
integrators, applications providers and device manufacturers to quickly
and seamlessly integrate NEC’s biometrics
technology into their solutions and products. NEC’s
PIDplus offers high-performance, easy-to-integrate matching technology
that works with virtually every platform, database and device to deliver
the highest accuracy and maximum security.
PIDplus supports multiple modes of matching using fingerprints and
faces, allowing for customizable combinations depending on specific
business needs. The new system will be more accurate because each mode
has unique performance characteristics which are blended to produce “fused”
results that are more precise than either mode alone could produce.
“Biometric-based authentication applications
are taking off,” said Christian Christiansen,
vice president, IDC. “These identification
methods have been a major contributor to effective law enforcement
processes and these technologies are ready to extend into new markets.
NEC is demonstrating technology leadership in the law enforcement space,
and is transferring that expertise to the civil and commercial sector,
providing a fast and accurate personal identification solution with its
new PIDplus offering.”
PIDplus is a software developer’s kit
composed of modular components to provide flexibility and scalability to
meet each enterprise’s specific biometrics
identification needs.
PIDplus Verification Matcher: PIDplus Verification Matcher
allows integrators to seamlessly build NEC’s
fingerprint matching feature into any one-to-one verification or
one-to-few identification applications. Examples include: enterprise
single sign-on, time and attendance, transaction verification,
physical access, and password replacement. PIDplus Verification
Matcher also supports on-device fingerprint matching, eliminating the
need to transmit large grey-scale images over the network.
PIDplus Enterprise Matcher: PIDplus Enterprise Matcher is a
software-based, multi-modal biometrics matching engine that offers
both one-to-one verification and infinitely scalable one-to-many
identification matching for medium- to large-scale projects, such as
national identification systems and driver license programs. It is a
fully-functional, self-contained “black box”
that system integrators and solution providers can use to integrate NEC’s
biometrics matching technology without costly programming, scripting
and technical support. System integrators and solution providers can
also use Web services to integrate PIDplus without special biometrics
knowledge or expertise.
With its multi-tiered software-based architecture, PIDplus can be easily
scaled up to meet changing business needs while maintaining accuracy and
system performance. As business grows, PIDplus supports growing
performance requirements without having to replace the algorithm or
reinvest in new systems. With the flexibility and scalability offered by
PIDplus, systems integrator and solutions provider partners can pursue
nearly any biometrics opportunity in the civil and commercial market
without heavy investments in operations or overhead.
Availability
PIDplus is designed to provide civil and commercial users with
the high-performance, multi-biometrics technology with top of the line
accuracy and security. PIDplus is currently available throughout the U.S.
