NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading technology provider of
network, IT, and identity management solutions, announced today it has
enhanced its product lineup with the addition of a new Service
Aggregation Switch, the CX2600/200 series. The new switch incorporates
added TDM/ATM interfaces, as well as highly reliable maintenance and
operation functions, making it ideal for Next Generation Network (NGN)
rollout. The new features will enable carriers to carry out a smooth
deployment of business data services, aggregate packet and circuit-based
infrastructure and migrate their mobile backhaul networks.
NEC’s comprehensive CX-series platform offers
solutions that take on the multiple needs in the mobile backhaul arena,
including a high performance transport solution enabled by QoS (Quality
of Service); a network solution that integrates a compact Pseudo Wire
Emulation (PWE) gateway — the CX2200-series —
to achieve CAPEX reductions, and which is highly suited for installation
in wireless base stations; or a mobile services solution through a
combination of the new CX-series with NEC’s
recently launched 5000-series of SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) /
SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) microwave radios or NLite™
E point-to-point digital microwave radios.
Key features incorporated in the CX-series, include:
Aggregation of Diverse Services and Hybrid Switching
FunctionalityIn response to the need to move to an
all-IP network in the future, NEC is providing an efficient
migration path to IP, which includes a phased introduction of
the IP transition within existing TDM infrastructure. The
Hybrid switching capability of a single switching card
simultaneously provides effective packet switching for
Ethernet/ATM traffic and low-latency circuit switching for TDM
traffic. In addition, the new PWE function provides TDM/ATM
emulation over IP networks.
Maintenance Operation Functionality Supporting Highly
Reliable ServicesFault detection, line fault
localization and performance measurement of maintenance
operation, all of which are issues with existing packet
networks, have been widely improved, contributing to improved
service reliability.
Intelligent QoS Control FunctionalityThrough NEC’s
proprietary intelligent QoS control function, low delays and low
jitter characteristics are achieved; enabling integration of
different traffic quality requirements. In NGN, where quality of
communication is paramount, per flow control is also supported.
“With the rapid increase in traffic converging
on the network edge, from DSLAM aggregation, to business VLANs, to the
introduction of WiFi / WiMAX-based services, there is greater demand for
efficient aggregation solutions,” said
Yoshichika Iida, senior vice president, NEC Corporation of America. “Understanding
new market demands, NEC has aggressively invested in its CX platform by
offering complementary optical and digital microwave radio platforms to
help carriers realize effective use of existing infrastructure
facilities and achieve a streamlined migration path toward an all-IP
Next-Generation Network."
The new Service Aggregation Switch is generally available today for the
North American market, and is a strong complement to NEC’s
“Generation-Free™”
suite of optical networking solutions; allowing operators the ability to
integrate new elements to dynamically “right-size”
their networks. The CX2600-series was initially introduced in 2003 as a
Layer 2 switch with high-levels of QoS control in broadband access
areas. The CX2600-series has been supporting and contributing to the
development of fixed carrier’s broadband
infrastructure as a Service Aggregation Switch in areas such as
ADSL/FTTH access networks for consumer services and wide area Ethernet
networks, and Layer 2-Virtual Private Networking for business network
service.
