Multiple scanner models being deployed in POS upgrade BLACKWOOD, N.J., April 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Metrologic Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ:MTLG) today announced a major rollout is underway to Systeme U, France's largest co-operative society retailer, with a range of its products, including the MS2200 Stratos(TM)S bi-optic 5 sided scanner/scale, the MS9535 VoyagerBT(R) and MS7120 Orbit(R). As part of a nationwide upgrade, Systeme U has implemented a program to ensure continuity of IT equipment across its network of over 850 stores in conjunction with the introduction of a chip-based customer loyalty rewards program. Info.U, the Systeme U subsidiary responsible for the selection and implementation of the new equipment, started the 2-year rollout in September 2005 with plans to deploy over 9,000 bar code scanners. Given the wide variations in store layouts in the Systeme U franchise, which may range from 4 point-of-sale stations to over 50, Info.U is offering a range of scanner options. Typically, the MS9540 Voyager(R) and MS9535 Voyager(R)BT hand held and MS7120 Orbit(R) presentation scanners will be the data capture unit of choice, but within the largest Hyper U stores the MS2200 Stratos(TM)S will provide the extra functionality needed where high-volume scanning and increased customer throughput are the order of the day. The range of products supplied by Metrologic increases the options available to individual stores. For example, the larger stores can attach an MS9540 Voyager to the auxiliary port of the Stratos in-counter scanner to assist the cashier to scan larger items which are too bulky to place on the checkout counter. The MS9535 VoyagerBT will be used at the Customer Service desks and the MS7120 Orbit will be deployed in the jewelry and photography departments. Bernard Bascoul, General Manager, Info.U, commented, "The implementation is going very well. We are delighted with the progress as the ease of installation of all of the Metrologic products is a major benefit for us. To simply arrive with the scanners in their boxes and be able to 'plug and play' speeds up the process and has provided the store owners with a great deal of confidence in the new system." "This is an important win for Metrologic in France, with both hand held and bi-optic scanners being chosen ahead of the competition for their performance and the increased productivity that they bring. Metrologic's bar code scanners are an important factor in providing the key to unlocking the data Systeme U will use to drive its new chip-based customer loyalty rewards program, once again demonstrating that we are providing solutions that keep our customers ahead of the competition," said Mark Ryan, Metrologic's Director of EMEA Sales.
