MIPS Technologies Names Mervin S. Kato as Chief Financial Officer

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 4  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer business applications, today announced it has promoted Mervin S. Kato to the position of chief financial officer.  Mr. Kato, most recently vice president of finance and corporate controller at MIPS Technologies, succeeds Kevin C. Eichler, who, as announced in November 2005, is transitioning out of the company during the first calendar quarter of 2006.

Mr. Kato has served as vice president of finance since May 2001 and corporate controller since May 1998.  He brings more than 30 years of high tech industry experience in finance and operations.  Previously, Mr. Kato was controller of the MIPS Group at Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI) and was involved with the spin-out of the company from SGI in 1998.  Prior to joining SGI, Mr. Kato spent 15 years with Apple Computer, Inc. in various financial and operational management positions.

Mr. Kato holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from San Jose State University.
