New WDS Accelerator Models and Features Take Access to
Data to New Heights
McDATA Corporation (Nasdaq: MCDTA)(Nasdaq: MCDT), a leading
provider of data access solutions, today announced the extension of
its remote office consolidation (ROC) solution. The key enabler of the
ROC solution, McDATA's WAN Data Services will include new models and
features for greater scalability, optimized performance and improved
management control. The SpectraNet WDS is based on the award-winning
technology from Riverbed.
"For enterprises to maintain a remote office consolidation
solution that can control costs and protect data, they must ensure
that the WAN optimization solution provider is making significant
advancements around scalability, application acceleration, and ease of
use," said Raj Das, vice president of product marketing, McDATA.
"McDATA, through its partnership with Riverbed, far outpaces the
competition in meeting these basic requirements."
New to the solution set are two models -- the WDS Accelerator
6020, and the WDS Interceptor 9200. Both support greater scalability
in data center deployments. Software upgrades provide even greater
acceleration for NFS and CIFS-based applications, and provide Quality
of Service (QoS) for all traffic. In addition, the WDS Central
Management Console will now include improved global reporting,
advanced data mining and central configuration.
"With so many employees working away from the data center, it is
imperative to have a seamless flow of data to the end user to sustain
productivity," said Das. "The ROC solution delivers these efficiencies
to enterprises, leveraging the WDS. The new additions to the WDS line
further enterprises' ability to deliver better data access to its
employees while reaping the benefits -- controlling IT costs and
protecting data -- of centralized data management."
Unprecedented Scalability
The two new models -- the WDS Accelerator 6020 and the WDS
Interceptor 9200 -- allow for greater scalability in the data center.
The new WDS 6020 delivers up to nine times more connections than
existing models and increased WAN data rates. It also has double the
throughput of any other model on the market. The WDS Interceptor 9200
enables high-availability Accelerator clusters that deliver up to 28x
more throughput than any other solution on the market, and supports up
to 1,000,000 simultaneous TCP connections. The WDS Interceptor also
simplifies data center deployments with the ability to add more
Accelerators without disrupting existing systems. Other new models
include the 1520, 3020, 3520 and 5520.
Broadest Set of Optimized Applications
In addition to the broadest set of industry-leading CIFS
application performance optimizations, more applications are now
accelerated with the release of WDS software version 3.0 with the
addition of NFS optimization. File sharing and applications deployed
in markets where UNIX is common, such as semiconductor design,
aerospace and automotive manufacturing, software development and
homegrown applications, can now be accelerated up to 54 times.
Quality of Service (QoS) for all WAN traffic is also now available
to ensure more efficient data movement. Policy-based QoS enables the
WDS Accelerators to prioritize between real-time traffic that cannot
be accelerated, such as VoIP and video, and traffic that can be
accelerated. Unlike the competition, WDS Accelerators QoS is
prioritized on both bandwidth and latency.
Easy to Use
The Central Management Console now includes capabilities for
global reporting, advanced data mining and central configuration.
Global reports include: total traffic, pass through traffic and total
connections. Advanced data mining allows IT managers to monitor
trending for up to one year, set custom time intervals and export
global statistics. Lastly, IT managers can now centrally and remotely
configure multiple WDS Accelerators.
The new 3020 and 5520 models are now generally available from
McDATA. McDATA will be shipping software version 3.0 in September on
all generally available models, including 3520 and 6020. Software
upgrades to versions 3.0 will be available in September for all
existing models. When available, McDATA intends to also offer the WDS
Interceptor 9200 and 1520, targeted for October 2006.
