KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) announced today that it has received a $1.1 million order for its DSP-3000 fiber optic gyros (FOGs) from a U.S. military customer. KVH’s compact, highly accurate FOGs will be used for real-time image synchronization and stabilization in military training simulator systems. Shipments for this order are expected to be completed in the near-term. “Our DSP-3000 FOGs, with their precise and instant measurement of platform motion, are an excellent and affordable solution for visual synchronization in simulators and training systems,” explained Jay Napoli, KVH’s director of fiber optic sales. “KVH FOGs allow the simulator’s virtual image to correspond exactly to a soldier’s motion by measuring even the slightest movement and relaying this data to the simulator’s computer, thereby helping to create a highly realistic experience for trainees. In addition, the DSP-3000’s versatility and commercial-off-the-shelf design allow us to meet both our customers’ urgent and longer-term needs with equal ease.” With their all-fiber design and patented Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, KVH’s DSP-3000 FOGs offer high reliability, superior accuracy and performance, and exceptional vibration, shock, and acceleration survivability at an affordable cost. KVH’s fiber optic guidance and sensor systems are used in an array of commercial and defense-related stabilization, navigation, autonomous vehicle, and precision guidance applications. For example, two KVH DSP-3000 FOGs are installed in each of the U.S. Army’s new Common Remotely Operated Weapon Stations (CROWS) systems, providing precise stabilization and weapon recoil control, as well as ensuring that the weapon maintains its aim on the target. In addition, KVH’s TG-6000 FOG-based inertial measurement unit serves as a key component in the guidance system of the U.S. Navy’s MK54 lightweight torpedo. Due to contractual restrictions, additional details regarding the customer and the intended application cannot be disclosed at this time.
