TracVision 4-HP and TracPhone F33 Named "Best Entertainment" and
"Best Communications" Products by North American Marine Electronics
Dealers
The votes are in and the accolades keep coming now that KVH
Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) has won "best product" awards from
the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) eight years in a
row. The high-performance (HP(TM)) KVH TracVision(R) 4-HP was named
the "Best Entertainment Product" while the KVH TracPhone(R) F33 was
named "Best Communications Product."
"The annual Product Awards offer NMEA members the opportunity to
recognize the highest standards of excellence in design, performance,
and reliability in marine electronic equipment," said Mark Young,
chairman of the NMEA Product Award committee.
The NMEA awards were especially competitive this year as the
number of categories was reduced from 23 to 7, including the
elimination of the "best satellite television" and "satellite
communications product" categories, which had been swept by KVH in
each of the last 7 years. For the first time, KVH's products were
competing not just against other satellite products but all forms of
onboard entertainment systems as well as communications products as
varied as VHF radio and onboard cellular systems. The awards were
presented on October 15, 2005, at the 2005 NMEA Convention held in
Naples, Florida.
In selecting this year's award winners, NMEA members looked not
only at how the products sell, but also considered the product's
quality and especially the company's support of the distribution
channel, both in pre-sale and after-sale support. "KVH is a great
supplier," said NMEA member Ron Larkin, owner of Oyster Harbor Marine
in Osterville, Massachusetts. "We have incredibly demanding
installations high up on the tuna towers of our Viking, Bertram, Cabo,
and Ocean Yachts. I know that the TracVision 4-HP will track the
satellites in that kind of demanding condition...As a dealer, we have
enjoyed a strong bond with KVH professionals from sales to technical
support to their activation department - it makes every TracVision and
TracPhone product we install an enjoyable experience."
The completely self-contained 18" diameter TracVision 4-HP with
integrated digital video broadcast (DVB(R)) technology is the world's
leading high-performance marine satellite TV system. Ideal for
virtually any vessel, the system automatically identifies, acquires,
and tracks satellite signals from a range of DIRECTV(R), DISH
Network(TM), and DVB-compatible satellites. The TracVision 4-HP
high-precision antenna gyros provide extremely accurate motion sensing
while the high-torque motor overcomes the shock of vessel motion (up
to 12 Gs of force) to keep the antenna pointed at the satellite at all
times in even the most severe conditions.
"The availability of KVH products is great. While the TracVision
4-HP is the most popular satellite TV system, the TracPhone F33 fits
the bill with our high-end customers and meets their high expectations
for a reliable communications system," said NMEA member Captain Bill
Altman, president of Hampton Navigation, Inc., in Hampton Bays, New
York.
"I can't recommend KVH products enough," echoes NMEA member
Michael Robilio, president of Concord Marine Electronics in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida. "I sell TracVision and TracPhone products on a
regular basis and the customers are always happy. The tech support is
excellent, spare parts are always available, and the problems are very
few. I can trust KVH."
KVH's TracPhone F33 is the smallest system available that offers
access to the powerful Inmarsat Fleet satellite communications
service. The antenna is available in either a 14" or 18" dome, making
it convenient in both size and cost for leisure craft and small
commercial vessels. In addition to global voice and fax access,
TracPhone F33 also includes Fleet's Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS)
and 9.6 Kbps data channel, both of which are accessible via Inmarsat's
global spot beams and enable fully functional, two-way Internet access
around the globe. The TracPhone F33's performance is enhanced by KVH's
Velocity(TM) Acceleration software, which provides a 200-500% increase
in data speeds for Inmarsat's Fleet service.
"These awards, especially in light of the increased level of
competition, represent the ultimate display of confidence by marine
dealers and customers in KVH's products and services," said Ian
Palmer, KVH's executive vice president of satellite sales. "We design
and manufacture our TracVision and TracPhone systems to the highest
standards to ensure that our customers and dealers enjoy an unmatched
level of reliability, quality, and performance. It is extraordinarily
gratifying that the members of the National Marine Electronics
Association have chosen to recognize our efforts in these areas."
Founded in 1957, the NMEA is an internationally recognized trade
association of manufacturers, distributors, dealers, sales
representatives and other professionals in the marine electronics
field. Among its achievements, the NMEA has led the way in
establishing technical standards for data exchange in marine
electronics, with the widely accepted NMEA 0183 data protocol.
