Internet Security Systems (NASDAQ:ISSX)
Historical Stock Chart
From Jan 2020 to Jan 2025
Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) (NASDAQ: ISSX), the worldwide
leader in preemptive, enterprise security, today announced that it is
the first enterprise security company to provide server security
protection for the latest Linux and Solaris operating systems, Red Hat
Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4.0 AS/ES and Solaris 10 SPARC.
“Enterprise IT departments are often held
accountable for supporting multiple operating systems across the
corporate network, and one of the main challenges associated with these
disparate platforms is maintaining a high level of security and
regulatory compliance across all of them,”
said David Abercrombie, senior product manager for server protection
products at Internet Security Systems. “Companies
should not have to sacrifice security and compliance in order to upgrade
their operating systems. ISS therefore continues to be the first
security company out of the gate with host protection for the latest
platforms.”
“In order for our customers to stay
competitive, they need to be using the latest technologies and operating
systems,” said Jay Gregg, information security
practice manager of ISS partner Accudata Systems. “We
therefore commend ISS for stepping up ahead of other security vendors to
offer solutions for the latest Linux and Solaris server platforms,
preventing companies from having to choose between performance and
protection.”
Both the Linux and Solaris operating systems are widely used among
enterprises. Linux is the fastest-growing operating system for the
server industry, posting year over year growth of 20.8 percent in Q4
2005 according to IDC. Additionally, according to a recent survey of ISS
customers, 61 percent of respondents said they are currently evaluating
or quickly moving towards a Linux environment. Meanwhile, Sun
Microsystems has stated in a June 2006 press release that more than 85
percent of the Fortune 500 has Solaris 10 in development or production
within their network environments. Both operating systems are popular
among financial institutions, increasing the need for additional
security to meet regulatory compliance initiatives and protect
potentially vulnerable customer data.
Server protection products from ISS offer multi-layered security for
enterprises, keeping data and applications reliable, available and
confidential. They dramatically reduce down time and network security
costs while protecting enterprise server environments from attack.
Centralized management capabilities allow companies to control, monitor
and analyze security systems with minimal staff and low operational
costs. Compliance reporting features help organizations keep pace with
the increased documentation demanded by government and industry security
regulations.
ISS technology is backed by the world-renowned ISS X-Force®
research and development team, which consistently rivals independent
researchers and other security vendors with cutting-edge vulnerability
discoveries. Additionally, ISS intrusion prevention solutions are
bolstered by the company’s unique Virtual
Patch® technology. By shielding the
underlying vulnerability instead of focusing on each new exploit,
Virtual Patch provides protection even before a vendor-supplied patch is
available.
Support for RHEL 4.0 AS/ES is provided through the ISS Proventia®
Server for Linux product and support for Solaris 10 SPARC is provided
with ISS RealSecure® Server Sensor. Both are
available now. Support for these operating systems will be offered to
existing customers at no additional charge.
