Temporary Closure of Hayes Lemmerz' Indiana Operations Due to Explosion 


NORTHVILLE, Mich., Oct. 30  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hayes Lemmerz
International  (BULLETIN BOARD: HAYZ)  Huntington Operations in Indiana has been
shut down temporarily due to an explosion on October 29, 2003, at approximately
8:00 p.m. that resulted in three injuries, including one fatality.  All
employees were evacuated from the facility and were notified not to report to
work during the temporary closing.

The accident occurred in the rear of the manufacturing facility.  The cause of
the accident is being investigated.
