Gene Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:GLGC) announced today it has
signed an agreement with GE Healthcare for global distribution of Gene
Logic's new SCIANTIS(TM) System, an online gene expression analysis
system developed for use by academic, government and other non-profit
research organizations. GE Healthcare will distribute the system in 32
countries and will be the exclusive distributor in Japan. Financial
details of the agreement were not disclosed.
The SCIANTIS System is user friendly, browser based, and designed
to help researchers quickly and easily profile the expression of
human, rat and mouse genes in normal and diseased tissues in order to
better understand the relationship of gene expression to biological
function and mechanisms of disease. The system is based on Gene
Logic's gene expression reference database, which allows accurate
expression comparisons due to the Company's industry-leading quality
control metrics and sample processing automation, which are employed
at its state-of-the-art facility. The SCIANTIS System features:
-- Gene expression profiles from more than 6,000 human, rat, and
mouse tissue samples curated by expert pathologists into more
than 800 sample sets.
-- Summary expression data for more than 30,000 genes in each
sample set.
-- Proprietary software that allows researchers to quickly
visualize data of interest and generate reports regarding gene
expression across a wide variety of cell lines or tissues.
-- Data segmented into five disease areas, including
inflammation, cardiovascular disease, oncology, central
nervous system disorders, and metabolic diseases.
Dennis Rossi, senior vice president and general manager, Genomics
for Gene Logic, said, "We designed the SCIANTIS System for the
thousands of academic and university researchers who have not had
access to the same gene expression analysis systems as their industry
counterparts. We have coupled this new product with GE Healthcare's
strong brand and powerful worldwide marketing and sales capabilities.
We are positioned to significantly broaden our customer base in
alliance with one of the largest and best-known corporations in the
world, through GE Healthcare's innovative marketing, web commerce,
direct selling and broad distributor network."
Ger Brophy, head of product acquisition and licensing, GE
Healthcare said, "We are excited to work with Gene Logic, a leader in
genomics services, to distribute the SCIANTIS System, an innovative
and effective way for researchers to more efficiently analyze genetic
expression data. The SCIANTIS System is a valuable addition to the
technologies and services GE Healthcare offers to our life sciences
customers."
