Goody's Family Clothing Announces December 2005 Sales

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 5  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Goody's Family Clothing, Inc. (NASDAQ:GDYS) today reported total sales of $205.9 million for the fiscal month of December 2005 (the five weeks ended December 31, 2005), an increase of 4.5% from total sales of $197.1 million for the fiscal month of December 2004 (the five weeks ended January 1, 2005). Comparable store sales for December 2005 declined 0.9% compared with December 2004.

Total sales for the first 11 months of fiscal 2005 increased 0.7% to $1.214 billion from $1.206 billion during the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the first 11 months of fiscal 2005 declined 4.6% from the same period last year.

Goody's, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, is a retailer of moderately priced family apparel, currently operating 381 stores, excluding one store temporarily closed due to hurricane damage, (compared with 359 stores at January 1, 2005) in the 21 states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
