Foundry Switches to Provide 802.1x and Dynamic VLAN support for Windows Vista Clients and Microsoft Network Policy Server
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Foundry Networks(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced it will demonstrate standards based authentication solutions for the delivery of secure policy-based Microsoft Network Access Protection (NAP) solutions in the Microsoft Partner Pavilion during the RSA(R) Conference in San Jose, Calif., February 13 - 17, 2006. The demonstration will show how Foundry switches perform in conjunction with Microsoft Windows-based clients and the Microsoft Network Policy Server (NPS) to manage policies that restrict client access to network resources based on the health of the system.
As part of the demonstration, Foundry Networks' switches will be configured with 802.1x port-based access control to provide user login support with NPS and enable policy-based client health checks. Health checks will determine whether the client is allowed access to production resources, or determine if it will be quarantined for remediation purposes. NPS is configured to interface with the Foundry switch and dynamically change VLANs for each user, based on the health of the system. This allows security managers to ensure that clients are IT policy compliant before they are permitted access to critical network resources.
"Microsoft is pleased to have industry leaders, such as Foundry Networks, demonstrating their support for Network Access Protection at RSA," said Mike Schutz, group product manager, Windows Server division at Microsoft Corp. "Using standard building blocks for delivering policy-based admission protection solutions is important to our customers. Foundry's demonstration will show that using network-based 802.1x port protection, with Windows Network Policy Server, provides a mechanism for validating client health and securing network access, without having to resort to proprietary networking technologies."
"We are honored to be demonstrating our support for Microsoft's Network Access Protection solution in their partner pavilion at the RSA Conference," said Gary Hemminger, director of product marketing for Foundry Networks. "We see a strong demand for solutions that not only secure network access but also provide mechanisms for client health validation before access is granted to internal resources. It is clear that having this capability within Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows Server "Longhorn" will significantly reduce the deployment and operational costs associated with securing endpoint resources."
