Factory Card & Party Outlet Announces Recall of Halloween Teeth Due to Concerns of Elevated Lead Levels

NAPERVILLE, Ill., Oct. 29  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Factory Card & Party Outlet Corp. (NASDAQ:FCPO) today announced a voluntary nationwide recall of approximately 2,500 "Ugly Teeth" party favors out of concern that they may contain unsafe levels of lead. The product was purchased from JCS Hong Kong Limited, a subsidiary of Amscan Inc., which initiated its own recall of the product earlier today. The affected product was sold by Factory Card & Party Outlet stores and other retailers across the country.  Consumers are urged to immediately discontinue use of the product and return it to any Factory Card & Party Outlet for a full refund.

The recalled product can be identified by the Universal Product Code 0-48419-65002-7, which appears below the bar code on the back of the package.

This recall is based on test results shared with the company this morning by an Ashland University (Ohio) chemistry professor. While neither the methodology nor specific findings of these tests have been shared or reviewed at this time, the company has taken a number of steps in addition to this recall out of an abundance of caution. They include:

  -- Immediately pulling the affected product from store shelves,
  -- Removing the product from the factorycard.com Web site,
  -- Placing in-store notices,
  -- Removing the Universal Product Code (UPC) from cash registers in order
     to prevent any of the recalled items from being purchased, and
  -- Contacting the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
