Technology to help secure online applications that integrate information or user identity from multiple trusted sources
DALLAS, June 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Entrust, Inc., a leading provider of solutions for securing digital identities and information, and SafeMashups, Inc., an application authentication pioneer, announce a new relationship under which Entrust SSL digital certificates can be used with the SafeMashups MashSSL Web ToolKit. This arrangement will allow SafeMashups to protect emerging "mashup" protocols by which application components share information over a trusted pipe with the user's authorization.
"Emerging mashup innovations such as cross domain XHR and OAuth offer many benefits to online users, but also introduce new threats," said SafeMashups Founder and CEO Ravi Ganesan. "Customers of Entrust SSL certificates can use MashSSL to strongly authenticate the business partners participating in these productive mashups for their employees or customers, helping to reduce unnecessary risks."
In the context of Web development, "mashups" occur when two or more data or communication sources are integrated to enable functionality for a single Web application. This is common online when Web sites share users, data sources and technology to provide streamlined functionality between the parties and/or services.
"The primary attraction of MashSSL is that it allows enterprises to use new and advanced mashup protocols in a secure way by exploiting the proven SSL trust infrastructure," said Tim Moses, director of advanced security at Entrust. "Entrust and SafeMashups are committed to working the standards process with other partners to make the MashSSL specification an open standard."
SafeMashups, Inc., is a San Antonio, Texas,-based application authentication pioneer and is currently under incubation at the Institute for Cyber Security at The University of Texas at San Antonio. It developed the MashSSL protocol, which provides a standardized way for Web applications to securely identify each other when mashing through a potentially untrusted browser. SafeMashups' free MashSSL Web Toolkit and the free SafeMashups community service offering provide a comprehensive trust infrastructure for mashup applications.
