Engineered Support Receives $7.2 Million Order for U.S. Army's
Knight Precision Targeting System
ST. LOUIS, July 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered Support Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ:EASI) received a $7.2 million order for the Knight Precision Targeting
System from the U.S. Army's Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) in
Warren, Michigan. Engineered Support's wholly-owned subsidiary Systems &
Electronics Inc. (SEI) will produce 31 Fire Support Sensor System (FS3)
equipped Mission Equipment Packages (MEPs) and miscellaneous spares at its St.
Louis and West Plains, MO facilities. Deliveries are scheduled to occur
between November 2006 and July 2007.
This Knight production award, which involves HMMVW-mounted MEPs, is provided
from Fiscal Year 2005 military supplemental funding and supports the Army's
continued transformation to modular brigades and its ability to prosecute the
Global War on Terror. To date, SEI has produced more than 160 Knight targeting
systems for the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. Knights are currently
deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and
Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to Engineered Support Vice Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer, Gerald A. Potthoff.

The Knight MEP is a precision targeting system consisting of a laser
designator/rangefinder, thermal imager, digital command and control, blended
inertial/Global Positioning System navigation and targeting, and a self defense
weapon. Its mission is to provide precision far target location and laser
target designation for both artillery and air-delivered general purpose and
precision-guided munitions.
The FS3 is a high performance sensor system consisting of a thermal imager/day
camera and rangefinder produced by Raytheon. In addition, FS3 has the ability
to mount a laser designation module for use with laser guided munitions.
