Deb Shops, Inc. Reports July, Second Quarter and Year-to-Date Sales

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 3  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Deb Shops, Inc. (NASDAQ:DEBS) today reported that comparable store sales decreased 9.6% in July 2006 as compared to July 2005. Total sales decreased 5.9% to $23.1 million from $24.5 million in July 2005.

For the quarter ended July 31, 2006, comparable store sales decreased 4.3% and total sales decreased 0.5% to $75.3 million from $75.7 million for the prior year quarter.  During the six-month period ended July 31, 2006, comparable store sales decreased 0.8% while total sales increased 2.2% to $156.6 million from $153.2 million for the prior year period.

The Company reports financial results on the calendar month.  Therefore, differences in timing will occur when comparing Deb Shops' results to those of retailers reporting on a 4-5-4 calendar.  During the month of July 2006, there were four Fridays compared to five Fridays in July 2005.

For the remainder of fiscal year 2007, Deb Shops, Inc. will report monthly sales according to the following calendar:
