Sendmail Inc. and Commtouch (Nasdaq:CTCH), two leaders
in email infrastructure and security technology, announced today the
signing of a new OEM licensing agreement. Through this partnership,
Sendmail will offer its customers cutting edge spam filtering and
Zero-Hour(TM) virus protection services, based on Commtouch's
Recurrent Pattern Detection(TM) (RPD(TM)) technology.
"With the worldwide growth of spam, and increasingly threatening
virus outbreaks, we need the most advanced technology to defend our
customers' email infrastructures," said Richard Kreysar, CEO,
Sendmail, Inc. "An especially concerning trend is the growing speed of
distribution. The most dangerous viruses are distributed before most
anti-virus products have a chance to update their signatures.
Commtouch's innovative, real-time detection approach to email
classification, combined with our Mailstream Manager and Sentrion
appliance adaptive policy framework, provides unmatched protection
from spam, phishing, viruses, spyware and other malware."
The evolution of attacks has created a vulnerability gap for
business, government, and consumer email users. A Recent FBI Computer
Crime Survey finds that "9 out of 10 U.S. businesses suffered from a
computer virus, spyware or other online attacks in 2004 or 2005
despite widespread use of security software." Responses from a
cross-section of more than 2,000 public and private organizations
surveyed in four states reveal that while 98% of respondents used a
traditional anti-virus solution, nearly 84% still suffered an attack
within the last year, and 20% indicated they had experienced 20 or
more attacks.
"The partnership with Sendmail is additional proof that
Commtouch's technology has become the choice of leaders. We are proud
to be working with such a recognized leader and innovator in email and
email security," said Gideon Mantel, Commtouch, CEO. "Sendmail's
top-of-the-line software and appliance solutions are a perfect
platform for Commtouch's RPD technology. Together, we believe we can
deliver the world's finest anti-spam and Zero-Hour virus protection
services to customers worldwide."
Sendmail, which has over 4,500 global customers worldwide and
serves millions of mailboxes, will market Commtouch's RPD within the
Mailstream email security software family and Sentrion family of email
security appliances launched in 2005. Sendmail's customer base will
benefit from Commtouch's global detection network, which protects
enterprises, service providers and consumers in over 140 countries.
Commtouch's RPD is a network-based technology that detects
patterns of massive outbreaks in email traffic to block spam and
email-born malware attacks within minutes or even seconds of their
distribution.
The Sendmail products incorporating Commtouch RPD and Zero-Hour
technology will be available in March 2006. For further information,
