CellStar Deploys Next-Generation Online Order Processing System
CellStar Continues to Lead Industry With Breakthrough IT Technologies, Enhances
Automated Supply Chain Management and Improves Customer Service With SOA
CARROLLTON, Texas, June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CellStar (NASDAQ:CLSTE), a
value-added wireless logistics services leader, today announced that it has
upgraded its automated supply chain management system. This new system, the
CellStar Integrated Ordering System (CIOS), is running on BEA WebLogic
Integration(TM) and leverages a service-oriented architecture (SOA). SOA is a
software architectural concept that defines the use of services to support
business requirements. This implementation strengthens CellStar's
customer-service efficiency by enhancing the company's automated order
processing system.
Benefits to CellStar Customers and Partners: Speed, Reliability, In-Depth
Analysis
CIOS is a highly advanced enterprise integration tool that can simplify and
accelerate communication between each company's software. It integrates
CellStar's catalog, warehouse-management, order-processing and
order-fulfillment systems with the order-entry systems of its business partners
to help facilitate the fast, reliable shipment of wireless handsets and
accessories.
CIOS transforms CellStar's systems into a service platform that is accessible
via a business partner's existing order-entry system. CIOS is completely
automated so that no human intervention is required for CellStar to process
incoming orders, resulting in more efficient and expedient order processing.
BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAS) is a world leader in infrastructure software,
and its award-winning BEA WebLogic Integration is the foundation of CIOS. BEA
WebLogic Integration is designed to help orchestrate the flow of messages,
requests and application interactions to help ensure that transactions are
completed in a timely manner. As a result, CIOS can offer a more granular view
of orders processed online, providing an in-depth look into transaction-level
data. Customers can benefit by being able to better analyze processing issues
that may arise.
"CellStar, which has been a frontrunner in technology advances in the wireless
logistics and distribution industry for the past decade, continues to lead the
way," said Scott Rynd, vice president of IT services and information security
for CellStar. "The amazing part of this new BEA-based system is that it's
designed so that our customers will not even notice when they are migrated,
making the transition completely transparent. What they can see, however, is
an increase in speed, more in-depth reporting and even more secure
transactions."
With the CIOS, CellStar increases its ability to efficiently and economically
take advantage of existing IT assets. And because it acts as a buffer between
stand-alone applications, CIOS can allow CellStar customers and partners to
seamlessly integrate their IT systems with the CellStar ordering system.
"Improving customer service is top of mind for many businesses today, and
CellStar is no exception," said Bill Roth, vice president, product marketing,
BEA Systems. "With its large and diverse network of customers -- the
telecommunications partners and suppliers with whom they do business --
CellStar views customer service as a key competitive differentiator. Using BEA
WebLogic Integration in an SOA environment can provide CellStar with the
foundation to help handle the internal and external demands of their business
today, and is designed to expand as CellStar's business grows in the future."
"The new CIOS system represents a significant leap in technology and is
performing well beyond expectations," added Rynd. "SOA is a strategic approach
to addressing business challenges that can help align IT with the needs of the
business by increasing our flexibility and allowing us to be more creative and
aggressive when pursuing new business opportunities."
Timing
The new system is currently in use. All new CellStar customers will
immediately use the CIOS system, and existing customers will transition to the
new system over the next few months.
