Baylor University Deploys Concord's SPECTRUM(R) Integrity(TM)
Software
SPECTRUM(R) Solution Manages Wired and Wireless IT Infrastructure Connecting
14,000 Students and More than 1,900 Faculty and Staff
MARLBORO, Mass., May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Concord Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ:CCRD) today announced that Waco, Texas-based Baylor University has
deployed SPECTRUM(R) Integrity(TM) software to guarantee the availability and
reliability of its wired and wireless network and communications infrastructure
that connects 14,000 students and more than 1,900 faculty and staff. Baylor
University -- which offers close to 150 baccalaureate degree programs and has
nationally-ranked nursing, law, engineering, and business school programs --
launched its "Baylor 2012 Vision" in 2002 to define a 10- year roadmap to
scholarly, athletic, and student life excellence in parallel to aggressive
campus expansion. Baylor relies on the SPECTRUM(R) software to ensure that its
IT infrastructure -- the backbone supporting these 2012 Vision initiatives --
performs without fail, while rapidly and reliably scaling.
"The SPECTRUM(R) solution does a superb job 24x7 of helping us do our jobs
faster, better, and with fewer resources," Baylor's Director of IT and
Networking Services, Bob Harland, explained. "As we continue expanding our
2012 Vision initiatives, we're confident the SPECTRUM software will scale with
us every step of the way to provide seamless campus-wide network, server, and
communications mapping, measurement, and management."
The SPECTRUM-managed IP infrastructure supports everything from wired and
wireless Internet access and e-mail in residence halls, classrooms and labs, to
PeopleSoft(R) financial applications in the university's operational offices,
to the "BlackBoard" web portal that faculty and students access to post and
view schedules, class notes, grades, and more. As Baylor University continues
migrating its vast resources of library information online, the SPECTRUM
software ensures that the 750 routers, switches, and wireless access points
remain available and reliable around-the-clock to support these high- bandwidth
demands.
Network Services Manager, Scott Day, further explained, "When we receive an
alert from the SPECTRUM(R) Alarm Notification Manager(TM) software, we know
without a doubt that the problem is real and immediate. We previously used a
series of homegrown point tools that often resulted in us chasing false
symptoms rather than addressing the root cause of the problem. The SPECTRUM
software's correlation and intelligence has improved our operations efficiency
immensely as we evolved from pinging to proactive notification and problem
resolution."
Added Brandon Tomlinson, lead communications technician: "The SPECTRUM
OneClick(R) user interface provides a comprehensive, at-a-glance view into our
ever-changing IT infrastructure. Our help desk can now communicate in real
time to end users and know when an issue is being resolved." He continued,
"Wireless adds another complicated layer to infrastructure management,
requiring ongoing authentication and security measures for our mobile student
population. The SPECTRUM software takes the guesswork out of configuring and
reconfiguring all these adds, moves, and changes."
In addition to pursuing excellence in all facets of campus life and education
with its 2012 Vision, Baylor University is also moving towards distance
learning as well as fully integrating into the Internet2 consortium in the near
future. The network operations team will rely on the SPECTRUM solution to
ensure that these new initiatives will deliver the same available, reliable IT
connectivity.
