Raiffeisen Informatik Deploys BackWeb to Manage Anti-Virus
Updates
Leading Austrian IT Service Provider Helps Ensure the Health and Security of
More Than 14,000 Computers
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BackWeb Technologies Ltd.
(NASDAQ:BWEB), a leading provider of offline and mobile web software announced
today that Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH, the IT service organization of the
Austrian Raiffeisen Group, has deployed BackWeb's Polite Sync Server(TM) to
continuously update anti-virus software on more than 14,000 PCs located at
1,300 Raiffeisen bank branches throughout Austria. The deployment of Polite
Sync Server is a core part of a widespread security strategy designed to
elevate the security of the Raiffeisen Group's network by ensuring that the
antivirus engines and libraries on every PC are up to date and in compliance
with corporate standards.
In the wake of the increasing amount and sophistication of virus attacks,
maintaining PC security is one of the biggest IT challenges facing large
distributed organizations such as Raiffeisen Group. Prior to selecting BackWeb,
the company relied on a proprietary solution to distribute anti-virus updates.
However, the process was time consuming and often left PCs exposed to new
threats for the period of time when the systems were not updated. Meanwhile,
maintaining current anti-virus definitions was also taxing on the network as an
immense amount of data is transmitted through the network with each update.
BackWeb's Polite Sync Server, the core infrastructure for BackWeb's products
and solutions, is a powerful communications system that can deliver huge
amounts of information without affecting network performance or the user
experience. The technology enables Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH to maintain
optimal PC security on more than 14,000 PCs by providing a reliable and
controlled distribution mechanism that is able to quickly deliver updates to a
large number of branches. With BackWeb, Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH can ensure
that the majority of users will get the updates as soon as possible, regardless
of their location or connection bandwidth, and identify users who have not
implemented the appropriate updates.
"As the organization responsible for meeting the IT needs of one of Austria's
largest banking groups, one of our mandates is to minimize the risk of security
threats and ensure that the company's IT infrastructure is operating at the
highest possible level," said Hans Hafensteiner, Group Leader Software
Management Client/Server with Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH. "Using BackWeb, we've
seen significant benefits throughout our organization-both from an IT
perspective and from a business value standpoint. Updating more than 14,000
PCs in hundreds of branches in a very timely manner is critical, but the real
value is knowing that our employees on the front lines are free from computer
viruses and are properly equipped to meet customer needs."
"As the number of security threats increase, organizations can no longer rely
on traditional, outdated methods to update critical security software," said
Bill Heye, CEO of BackWeb. "Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH is a great example of a
company that is leveraging BackWeb's core infrastructure, Polite Sync Server,
to quickly and proactively manage the process of updating desktop software
without affecting the network or the end user experience. Using BackWeb,
Raiffeisen Informatik can rest assured knowing that employees of the Raiffeisen
Group have the latest anti-virus updates and focus on delivering the highest
level of service possible to their customers."
