BackWeb Files for Patent on Its Two-Way Synchronization
Technology
BackWeb's Unique, Proven Technology Is Vital to Sales and Field Service
Organizations
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BackWeb Technologies Ltd.
announced today it has on file a U.S. patent application for its "System and
Method for Providing Offline Web Application, Page, and Form Access In a
Networked Environment," a core technology within its flagship BackWeb(R) Offline
Access Server(TM) offering.
Today's global enterprises are increasingly migrating corporate applications to
the Web to deliver "always on" functionality to employees. Meanwhile, the number
of mobile workers worldwide continues to grow at a rapid pace. As a result, a
productivity gap has emerged amongst sales, service, consulting and other teams
that are frequently in the field with limited access to corporate networks.
BackWeb's patent-pending technology was designed to close this gap by extending
the reach of corporate portals, intranets and other Web applications to mobiles
sales and field force employees while streamlining business activities,
increasing revenues, and improving customer satisfaction.
BackWeb's patent application is based on the company's unique method for
providing offline Web application, page and form access in a networked
environment, as embodied in BackWeb's Offline Access Server solution. Offline
Access Server uses an offline enabling technology and an HTML extension called
OTML (Offline Tagging Markup Language) to enable Web applications to operate
offline in a scalable, two-way synchronization mode that is based on the
company's patented Polite(R) network-sensitive content delivery system. This
Polite system can deliver any size data without impacting the performance of
other network applications. BackWeb OAS integrates at the presentation layer,
avoiding the need to re-engineer existing Web applications for offline use and
allows companies to deliver a complete offline Web experience, including
Web-based forms, in a shorter period of time than a re-engineering project would
require.
"BackWeb's patent strategy is designed to ensure that the Company's technology
portfolio is not only protected but also can be expeditiously delivered to the
market," said BackWeb CEO Erez Lorber. "Our practical, thin client offline
approach allows organizations to more effectively provide sales and field
service representatives with offline access to the critical business information
they need to succeed."
