MARKET OVERVIEW

In overseas trading, Asian markets followed the example set by Tokyo today, as the main Japanese stock index bolted to a fresh five-year high.  The index hit this high thanks to some strong gains in key sectors, one of which is real estate.  Mitsubishi Estate, the country's largest real estate company, increased 9.1 percent on Wednesday following Tuesday's possible property purchase by American International Group (AIG).  In Europe, strength in energy and metals stocks helped the German DAX and the French CAC make solid gains. Currently, all 15 of the foreign markets we track are in positive territory, boasting an average gain of 0.672.

The January crude futures contract added 45 cents per barrel to finish higher for the first day out of the past five.  Of course, that doesn't matter much this morning, as the February contract assumed the role of front-month contract at the close.  The new front-month contract inched ahead with a gain of four cents.

So far today, Jabil Circuit, Carmax, and Electronic Arts lead the list of companies with the most news stories while Seagate Tech and Allergan are showing a spike in news. Palm, Time Warner, and Google have the highest srtIndex scores to top the list of companies with positive news while General Motors and Harrahs Entertainment lead the list of companies with negative news reports. FedEx has popped up with a high positive news sraIndex score.
