SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BEI Technologies, Inc.
(NASDAQ:BEIQ) today announced that Dr. Asad M. Madni, its President and Chief
Operating Officer was honored by the University of California Los Angeles
(UCLA), Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS) to
receive the 2004 Alumnus of the Year Award.
According to HSSEAS, "the Alumnus of the Year Award, its highest honor
established in 1965, honors the superior achievements of UCLA engineering
alumni in their chosen fields of endeavor. The hallmark of each recipient is a
sterling record of distinguished career accomplishments, complemented by a
history of outstanding contributions to the engineering profession. The
committee shall be alert to qualified individuals who serve as a role model to
newcomers to the profession or who contribute to the profession through its own
organizational activities. Without exception, awardees have established new
standards of excellence to which others in their fields may aspire."

The formal award ceremony will be held on October 15, 2004 at the Marina Beach

Dr. Madni was also the recipient of the 2004 Distinguished Engineering
Achievement Award from the San Fernando Valley Engineers' Council "for a
distinguished career of seminal and pioneering contributions to science and
technology." The award was presented on February 28, 2004, during National
Engineers Week.
BEI Technologies, Inc. (the "Company" or "Technologies") is an established
manufacturer of electronic sensors, motors, actuators, optical encoders and
motion control products used for factory and office automation, medical
equipment, military, aviation and space systems. In addition, sales to
manufacturers of transportation equipment including automobiles, trucks and

automotive inertial quartz based sensor products, remotely mounted multi-sensor
clusters with CAN Bus and a multi rate sensor package suitable for
incorporation into electronic systems modules. The Company also manufactures
electronic steering wheel position sensors, seat-memory modules, throttle
position sensors, inertial navigation systems, and other devices used in
transportation systems.
