bcgi (NASDAQ:BCGI), a leading provider of solutions to mobile
operators and MVNOs worldwide, today announced the U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office has issued patent number 7,197,321 titled, “Method
and System for Providing Supervisory Control over Wireless Phone Usage.”
The invention covered in this patent allows operators and MVNOs to
create differentiated services aimed at parents or businesses looking to
control mobile phone usage for their children or employees.
The invention covered in this patent is provided by bcgi as part
of the Mobile Services Platform and allows operators and MVNOs to define
a range of parameters to be controlled in real-time by the supervisor or
parent. These parameters include the locations in which the phone may be
used, the time of day or day of week the phone may be used, and also a
usage balance within a particular time period that may not be exceeded.
In addition, the invention allows the definition by the supervisor or
parent of always-accessible and never-accessible numbers that may be
defined.
“As mobile operators and MVNOs look to target
new markets such as parents/children and small businesses, new real-time
control capabilities are required,” said Tom
Erskine, vice president of product management at bcgi. “This
patent is evidence of our continued innovation and the development of
new technical capabilities to help drive subscriber growth and
penetration of remaining untapped wireless segments.”
