Audience to learn about use of technology in a collaborative classroom environment

Carnegie Learning, Inc., a subsidiary of Apollo Education Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: APOL), announced today that its Co-founder and Chief Scientist, Steve Ritter, Ph.D., will be featured on a panel at the California “Tech for Schools” Superintendent’s Summit: presented by EdSurge, the California Department of Education and the Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation in Davis, Calif., on Aug. 4, 2015. The panel will discuss how educators and students use technology in a collaborative environment with input from all stakeholders.

The summit brings together leading superintendents and district teams, consisting of curriculum and technology directors and board members, from across California along with creative educational technology entrepreneurs. The goal is to advance critical innovative technologies and familiarize participants with rules for assessing new technology in California school districts. Dr. Ritter will participate in the “Increasing students’ collaboration, creativity and critical thinking” focus panel.

Its math curricula are based on extensive research into how students think and learn and are enhanced by proven best practices in teaching and learning.

“Critical thinking is essential for students to develop a deeper understanding and foundation for mathematics,” said Dr. Ritter. “Collaboration with other students allows them the opportunity to share solution methods and become more aware of the varied types of reasoning that can lead to correct performance.”

Dr. Ritter was instrumental in the development and evaluation of Cognitive Tutor® for mathematics, a two-time SIAA CODiE™ Award Winner. Additionally, he is the author of numerous papers on the design, architecture and evaluation of Intelligent Tutoring systems. He is lead author of an evaluation judged by the US Department of Education’s What Works Clearinghouse as fully meeting their standards and is first author of a “Best Paper” at the International Conference on Educational Data Mining.
