      a bleak picture of typical finance department operations. Typical 
      companies spend more than twice the amount needed by world-class finance 
      operations, and operate with more than double the staff. Finance costs 
      have risen by 12% at typical companies over the last three years, with 
      increased focus and spending on compliance playing a significant role in
