ANS Wins Medical Design Excellence Award for Axxess Product Line
Neurostimulation Leads Recognized in MDEA Awards for Product Design and
Engineering
PLANO, Texas, April 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advanced Neuromodulation
Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:ANSI) today announced that its line of Axxess(R)
neurostimulation leads, designed for superior handling and precise placement,
has received a 2005 Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA). The MDEA
competition is sponsored by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry (MD&DI)
magazine and organized by Canon Communications LLC, Los Angeles.
"We are honored to be recognized for medical innovation in the design and
engineering of our Axxess leads," said Chris Chavez, ANS president and CEO.
"Axxess leads represent not only advanced neurostimulation lead technology and
design, but a significant leap forward in specialized miniaturization
capabilities and manufacturing processes. The resulting size and steerability
of our Axxess leads benefit both doctors and their patients."
Axxess neurostimulation leads set a new standard by offering the smallest
diameter available -- 36% thinner than other neurostimulation leads on the
market. The patented unibody design for optimum steerability is designed to
make implantation faster and easier for the physician and less invasive for the
patient. Additionally, the increased maneuverability allows for greater
placement alternatives to effectively treat chronic pain.
Axxess leads are available in multiple lengths and electrode configurations,
providing physicians options when customizing treatments to the individual
needs of the patient. The leads' low impedance design also helps increase the
longevity of ANS' neurostimulation systems -- Genesis(R), GenesisXP(TM),
GenesisRC(TM), Eon(TM) and Renew(R) spinal cord stimulation systems.
MDEA is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions to
and advances in medical product design. Award entries are evaluated on the
basis of their design and engineering features, including innovative use of
materials, user-related functions that improve healthcare delivery and change
traditional medical attitudes or practices, features that provide enhanced
patient benefits, and the product development team's ability to overcome design
and engineering challenges so that the product meets its clinical objectives.
The 2005 Medical Design Excellence Award winners will be honored at a ceremony
during the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference and
Exposition, June 13-15, 2005, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention
Center. Gold and silver recipients will be announced at this time.
