Meeting of Shareholders 


NEW YORK, Dec. 11  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Salomon Brothers Emerging Markets
Income Fund Inc., which is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the
symbol "EMD," announced today the results of the votes cast at the Fund's annual
meeting of shareholders held on December 11, 2003.

   * William R. Hutchinson, Riordan Roett, and Jeswald W. Salacuse were
     elected as Class I Directors of Salomon Brothers Emerging Markets
     Income Fund Inc. to hold office until the annual meeting of
     stockholders in the year 2006 or thereafter when respective successors
     are duly elected and qualified.

   * Carol L. Colman and Daniel Cronin were elected as Class II Directors of
     Salomon Brothers Emerging Markets Income Fund Inc. to hold office until
     the annual meeting of stockholders in the year 2004 or thereafter when
     respective successors are duly elected and qualified.
