Kaufmann's Announces Plans for New Store at Eastland Mall in Columbus, Ohio 


BOSTON, Dec. 16  /PRNewswire/ -- Kaufmann's announced today that it will open a
new store at Eastland Mall in Columbus, Ohio. This will be Kaufmann's fourth
store in the Columbus market and the company's first "lifestyle" store in Ohio.

The store is scheduled to open in fall 2005.  Construction will begin June
2004.

Kaufmann's will build a two-story, 120,000-square-foot, lifestyle-design store. 
The format will be easy-to-shop and will feature wider aisles, brighter
lighting, and upscale shopping carts.  The store also will feature express
checkouts at key locations as well as checkout desks in individual departments. 
Architectural highlights will include bold colors and movable perimeter walls
that quickly change to enhance merchandise presentations and showcase multiple
outfit options.

The store's merchandise selections will include updated apparel selections for
women, men, teens and children, cosmetics, accessories, and men's furnishings,
as well as products for the home such as linens and textiles, small electrics,
cookware and tableware.

Eastland Mall is being redeveloped by Glimcher Properties Limited Partnership.

Kaufmann's is part of the Filene's/Kaufmann's division of The May Department
Stores Company.  The division is headquartered in Boston, operates 100 stores in
10 states, and had net sales of $3.1 billion in fiscal 2002.
