General Market Outlook

Overall the market continues on a sideways trend, in congruence with BTC. Bitcoin remains over $8,000 at this time. Major voices in the cryptocurrency space have come out in support of recent market movements as a good time to buy in for the long term – such as Dan Morehead founder of Pantera Capital.

CEO of Pantera Capital Calls Buy Signal for BTC

This was only the fourth trade recommendation publicized by Dan Morehead in seven years while operating the fund with a focus on cryptocurrencies. For roughly the past month, BTC has rode right below the 200 day moving average, but has not been in decline. This is the ideal “bottom” signal. Blind optimism has left the market, and the harshest prices have been revealed.

Dan Morehead spent his career before cryptocurrencies in executive roles at Deutsche Bank in London, Bankers Trust, and Goldman Sachs. He started Pantera Capital in 2003, and converted the cryptocurrency market in 2013. He was one of the founding members of Bitstamp in 2015.

New York Attorney General to Investigate 13 Crypto Exchanges

The investigation will look into the 13 largest platforms - Coinbase, Inc. (GDAX), Gemini Trust Company, bitFlyer USA, Inc., iFinex Inc. (Bitfinex), Bitstamp USA Inc., Payward, Inc. (Kraken), Bittrex, Inc., Circle Internet Financial Limited (Poloniex LLC), Binance Limited, Elite Way Developments LLP (Tidex.com), Gate Technology Incorporated (Gate.io), itBit Trust Company; and Huobi Global Limited (Huobi.Pro)

They have proposed a questionnaire regarding the practices each business has in place for six key incites - Ownership and Control Basic Operation and Fees, Trading Policies and Procedures, Outages and Other Suspensions of Trading, Internal Controls, and Privacy and Money Laundering

“With cryptocurrency on the rise, consumers in New York and across the country have a right to transparency and accountability when they invest their money. Yet too often, consumers don’t have the basic facts they need to assess the fairness, integrity, and security of these trading platforms,” said Attorney General Schneiderman in a press statement.
