Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said Wednesday that its U.S. auto sales rose 8.2% in June, as strong sales of Jeep and Chrysler vehicles helped propel the auto maker to its best June sales since 2006.

U.S. auto sales have been pushing higher and are on track to deliver one of the strongest years ever, helped by continued demand for SUVs and trucks.

Earlier this week, the National Automobile Dealers Association raised its 2015 U.S. auto-sales forecast to 17.2 million vehicles from its earlier forecast of 16.94 million.

A strong labor market, low-interest rates and deals from auto makers continue to fuel the market for new vehicles.

Meanwhile, prices continue to climb. Automotive information provider Kelley Blue Book said transaction prices of new light vehicles in June rose 2.5% from a year earlier to $33,340.

Fiat Chrysler, which has now posted 63 consecutive months of year-over-year sales gains, said it sold 185,035 units in June, up from 171,086 a year ago. That was slightly below the 186,864 vehicles units Edmunds.com had forecast Fiat Chrysler would sell.

Jeep sales were up 25% to 71,529 vehicles, driven by higher Patriot and Cherokee sales. Fiat Chrysler said it was the brand's best June sales ever.

Chrysler sales jumped 28%, boosted by sales of the Chrysler 200 midsize sedan, which more than doubled over the prior year.

Overall, truck sales gained 5.6% to 138,777 vehicles, while car sales jumped 17% to 46,258 vehicles.

Fiat Chrysler projected total industry sales in the U.S. to be a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 17.5 million units for June.
