UniCredit SpA's (UCG.MI) strategic committee is meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss a capital increase that could be worth at least EUR7 billion, Italian daily Il Messaggero reports, without citing sources.
UniCredit has repeatedly declined to comment on capital increase reports but observers and analysts expect the bank to announce one next Monday, when the bank will present a long-awaited strategic plan.
The paper adds that Bank of America Merrill Lynch will be co-global coordinator and co-joint bookrunner, while Italian merchant bank Mediobanca SpA (MB.MI) will play a role in the capital strengthening measure.
