                      Appointment of Non-Executive Director
                                        
                                        
The Board of European Colour plc is pleased to announce that Dr. David Ingles
has joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect. This
increases the size of the Board to five members, of which three are
Non-Executive Directors.


European Colour plc is a specialist organic pigments manufacturer and marketer,
serving customers in the packaging, coatings and plastics industries globally
with special emphasis on Europe and North America.


Dr. Ingles retired from HSBC James Capel in 1998 and, during his 19 years as a
stockbroker, was consistently rated among the top UK chemical industry analysts.
Following retirement, Dr. Ingles was a Non-Executive Director of Inspec Group
plc until its acquisition by Laporte. He has written numerous articles on
aspects of the chemical industry and in 2000 authored a major report entitled
"Mergers and Acquisitions in the Chemical Industry". He is also a regular
speaker at industry and investment conferences. Prior to his time as a chemical
industry analyst, Dr. Ingles worked for a number of chemical companies in
marketing and planning roles.

For the purposes of paragraph 16.13 of the Listing Rules, European Colour
announces that Dr. Ingles does not hold any interest in the share capital of
European Colour plc.


Other than European Colour plc, Dr. Ingles does not have any current
directorships nor any past directorships other than Inspec Group plc.


Dr. Ingles has confirmed that there are no details to be disclosed for the
purposes of paragraphs 6.F.2 (b) to (g) of the Listing Rules.
