                        Annual General Meeting Statement


European Colour plc, the speciality pigments company, held its Annual General
Meeting today. The following update on trading was read out to shareholders:


"Since the company's preliminary announcement of results in June 2003, European
Colour has experienced a slowdown in sales, particularly in the US. The Pigments
business has not lost any significant customer positions and has continued to
make progress with new customers and products but the lower overall sales in the
first quarter reflect a general decline in activity at our major customers and
continued volatility in order patterns.


The Board now believes that the outcome for the first half of the current year
will be behind that of last year, which saw very strong trading. An assessment
of the likely impact on the full year's results will be provided with the
announcement of interim results in November when there will be greater clarity
as to how long the weaker sales persist.


Having recently made important senior management changes in the sales and
operations areas of the business, the Board is confident that the business is
well positioned to take advantage of an upturn in the market."
