RNS Number:8664K UBC Media Group PLC 08 May 2003 UBC Media Group reports RAJAR figures for Classic Gold Digital have held firm, and the inaugural RAJAR audience survey for Oneword Radio Thursday 8 May 2003 UBC Media Group reports listening to Classic Gold Digital has held firm in the latest RAJAR report (Quarter 1, 2003), despite this being a traditionally poor reporting period for AM radio listening. Average listening hours and market share across Classic Gold Digital's analogue network held firm, with reach of 7%, average listening hours at 10.3 and market share of 3%. During the period, Tony Blackburn's Saturday and Sunday Weekend Show showed significant increases, building on the success of the previous quarter. This gives us encouragement that the recently launched Tony Blackburn weekday Breakfast Show, which will be reflected in next quarter's RAJAR survey, will deliver audience growth. Classic Gold Digital broadcasts on 18 AM stations, plus a network of digital multiplexes, which gives the format a potential audience of 29 million people - making it the third largest on local digital multiplexes. GWR Group is responsible for advertising sales and Classic Gold Digital receives a payment for its programming from GWR, directly related to the number of listening hours as measured by RAJAR. Oneword Radio reported very encouraging inaugural RAJAR numbers, in the first survey to include digital-only radio stations, reporting a weekly adult audience for the station of 50,000 and weekly listening hours of 138,000. UBC Media Group has a 50% shareholding in Oneword Radio, which is the only national commercial digital station dedicated to the spoken word. Oneword Radio is broadcast on the national digital multiplex, Digital One, and across several digital television platforms, including Sky and Freeview. Commenting on the RAJAR numbers, Simon Cole, Chief Executive of UBC Media Group, said, "this is great day for digital radio. We have waited three years for concrete evidence that digital radio is being embraced by the British people. Nobody can now doubt that digital listening will be a significant and growing part of the radio landscape over the next two years and will effectively deliver audiences to advertisers".
