Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (AMEX:TWW), a leading operator of integrated
Tier-1 Internet exchanges and a global provider of managed IT
infrastructure solutions for government and private sectors, today
announced that the South Florida Water Management District has signed a
multi-year contract to house their critical infrastructure at the NAP of
the Americas.
The South Florida Water Management District is a regional, governmental
agency that oversees the water resources in the southern half of the
state – 16 counties from Orlando to the
Florida Keys. It is the oldest and largest of the state’s
five water management districts. The agency’s
mission is to manage and protect water resources of the region by
balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems
and water supply. A key initiative is cleanup and restoration of the
Everglades.
Terremark will provide the South Florida Water Management District with
secure and redundant Internet access, co-location space and power. This
co-location space will serve as the foundation for the District’s
internet and disaster recovery platforms. In addition, the District will
use diverse fiber connections into the NAP on an optical network to
provide highly resilient connectivity onto the District fiber optic
network and to their primary datacenter.
“Flood and drought, like hurricanes and
wildfires, have always been a part of subtropical Florida. Proactive
planning, monitoring and management can lessen the impact of these
natural extremes,” said Sharon Trost, IT
Director for South Florida Water Management District. “It
is our responsibility to keep the public and other agencies informed at
all times. Housing our mission-critical infrastructure in a secure,
reliable and accessible facility like the NAP provides us the up-time
that we require to alert the public in the event of these natural
extremes.”
“The work of the South Florida Water
Management District is critical to the well-being of our community,”
said Manuel D. Medina, Chairman and CEO of Terremark Worldwide Inc. “We
are delighted that they have decided to house their mission critical
infrastructure with us, as the NAP continues to be the facility of
choice for government entities such as Miami-Dade County, Cities like
Coral Gables, Doral, Miami Beach and others, who entrust their
infrastructure to us for a more secure, reliable and cost-effective
solution.”
