Magic Lantern Group Enters into Alliance to Offer TutorBuddy as a
Fundraising Vehicle
--Toronto District School Board Markets TutorBuddy to More than 550 Schools--
NEW YORK, April 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Magic Lantern Group,Inc. , a
leading North American distributor of educational content and e-learning
delivery with licensing operations in Canada and the U.S., announced today that
the Company has entered into an alliance with the Toronto District School Board
(TDSB) to include Magic Lantern Group's TutorBuddy(TM) product in its
fundraising outreach program. TutorBuddy is an Internet-based system that
delivers searchable, curriculum-correlated video programs and learning objects
on-demand to students as an in-home homework and research tool. TutorBuddy's
growing collection currently has more than 1,600 learning video programs,
indexed into over 12,000 video objects, virtual clips of whole video programs.
The TDSB, which services the Greater Toronto area, recently compiled and
distributed a fundraising guide to the 558 schools that operate within its
district. The purpose of the guide is to help schools plan and launch their
fundraising activities. For each TutorBuddy subscription sold, the
participating schoolwill receive a portion of the proceeds in cash.
Magic Lantern Group President and CEO Bob Goddard stated, "Fundraising with
TutorBuddy exemplifies the innovative use of technology for educational
purposes. We believe TutorBuddy can offer much more tostudents compared to
traditional fundraising vehicles because it provides a significant value-added
educational benefit. TutorBuddy can be used as an interactive supplement to
in-class room teaching by enabling on-demand access to a large database of
school-curriculum subjects. In addition, TutorBuddy extends learning into the
home by allowing students access from their personal desktops. By aligning with
TDSB, we have significantly extended the geographic reach for TutorBuddy. As the
largest school board in Canada, the TSBD should not only provide for additional
market exposure, but also assist us in generating new sales from TutorBuddy
subscriptions."
