eMagin Corporation (AMEX: EMA), a leader in personal display systems and OLED technology, will demonstrate the latest innovations of power-efficient OLED microdisplays at the SPIE Security and Defense Conference exhibition being held in Orlando at the Gaylord Palms Convention Center through April 20 (Booth 322). Company leadership will also present two papers at the conference. Gary Jones, eMagin's CEO and president, will give an invited paper on Thursday, April 20 at 8:30 am entitled, "Organic light emitting diode microdisplays: an essential technology with compelling advantages." Mr. Jones will provide an overview of the applications in which active matrix OLED microdisplays are being adopted and highlights of this new technology's advantages. These applications range from thermal imaging to situational awareness to simulation and training, medical, industrial control, and consumer entertainment. Jones will also highlight recent technology advances that will enable more robust and higher performance OLED microdisplays and how these will add impetus to the already growing adaptation of these devices. Olivier Prache, eMagin's senior vice president of display development and operations, will deliver a paper entitled "SVGA AMOLED with world's smallest pixel pitch," on Tuesday, April 18 at 3:40 pm. The paper will outline the design and early evaluation results of the world's highest pixel density full-color OLED microdisplay. His presentation is based on results of a new SVGA OLED microdisplay (dubbed SVGA-3DS) that is 40% smaller than eMagin's current products. This design would expand the functionality of eMagin's current products with no sacrifice in resolution, power efficiency, or ruggedness. "Unlike legacy technologies, OLED materials and device designs hold the prospect of even more power-efficient displays that feature higher brightness, broader color gamuts, superior contrast, more compact packaging, and higher resolution," said Susan Jones, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, eMagin Corporation. Already delivering the most power-efficient solution for near-eye systems, eMagin will also demonstrate its award-winning Z800 3DVisor, which combines large-screen (105-inch display viewed at 12 ft) 3D graphics and video with highly responsive headtracking for simulation and training applications. eMagin will demonstrate the 3DVisor with Quantum3D's Thermite visual computing system. The two devices are elements of Quantum3D's open-architecture Expedition system, which enables the rapid development and deployment of embedded training and mission-rehearsal scenarios for military and first responder applications. eMagin will also showcase its microdisplays and modules in products from Liteye Systems and Total Fire Group, as well as its own WFO5 prism optic, designed to deliver an apparent large-screen virtual image from eMagin's SVGA portfolio of microdisplays. New product announcements are slated for Wednesday, April 19. About OLED Owing to the inherent benefits of OLED technology, eMagin's OLED microdisplays deliver the resolution, brightness, and speed for a broad range of defense and security applications. They offer the most power-efficient solution for near-eye applications such as thermal imaging, situational awareness, and simulation and training. Because OLEDs refresh in microseconds rather than milliseconds, eMagin displays deliver images and information virtually flicker free with crisp text and clear image data. Since they emit light in all directions, they accommodate a greater range of pupil movement than traditional LCDs. Combined with their low power consumption and fast refresh rate, this characteristic makes them ideal for mobile applications. Their ready operation over a wide range of temperatures (-40 to 65 deg. C), and solid-state design make them the microdisplay of choice for innovative thermal imaging and soldier systems. About eMagin Corporation A leader in personal display systems and OLED microdisplay technologies, eMagin integrates high-resolution OLED microdisplays, magnifying optics, and systems technologies to create a virtual image that appears comparable to that of a computer monitor or a large-screen television. eMagin's OLED displays have broad market reach and are incorporated into a variety of near-to-eye imaging products by military, industrial, medical and consumer OEMs, who choose eMagin's award-winning technology as a core component for their solutions. eMagin's first personal display system, the Z800 3DVisor, provides superb 3D stereovision and headtracking for PC gaming, training and simulation, and other applications. It won the CEA's Innovation of Year award in the digital display category and won additional design awards in the electronic gaming category. eMagin's microdisplay manufacturing and R&D operations are co-located with IBM on its campus in East Fishkill, New York. System design facilities and sales and marketing are located in Bellevue, Washington. A sales office is located in Tokyo, Japan.
