ERF Wireless (OTCBB:ERFW), a leading provider of
enterprise-class wireless broadband products and services and Eagle
Broadband Inc. (AMEX:EAG), a national provider of broadband, Internet
protocol (IP) and communications technology and services, today
announced that the two companies have entered into a contract whereby
ERF Wireless will begin reselling Eagle's SatMAX(TM) advanced Iridium
satellite communications system to the ERF Wireless customer base.
Under the terms of the agreement, ERF Wireless can offer the product
to any of their regional banking or other customers throughout the
entire United States market area effective immediately.
The SatMAX is an advanced communications system that enables users
to quickly and easily make fully wireless, satellite voice and data
communications available from any non-line-of-sight location. The
SatMAX creates a satellite communications "hotspot" that enables fully
wireless coverage for multiple concurrent users in any
non-line-of-sight environment. With the SatMAX, users of the Iridium
satellite network can now use their existing satellite phones or data
terminals to make multiple concurrent calls within SatMAX-enabled
"hotspot" areas from anywhere on Earth.
Dave Micek, CEO of Eagle Broadband Inc., commented, "Our reseller
agreement with ERF Wireless allows Eagle Broadband to enter a niche
market area that Eagle has not yet tapped-- namely, the regional
banking industry. Regional banking has many of the disaster recovery
and associated communications requirements that the SatMAX system was
designed to address. ERF Wireless is already experiencing success
selling secure communications products into the banking industry. We
believe that our association with ERF Wireless will bring the value of
SatMAX to a new market segment and can be very rewarding for both
companies."
R. Greg Smith, CEO of ERF Wireless, noted, "The SatMAX system is
an ideal product to add to our Enterprise Network Services subsidiary
encrypted wireless wide-area network (WAN) offering to the regional
banking industry. All of the banks are extremely focused on secure
communications with disaster recovery. Any product that addresses
these issues should receive quite a bit of attention. We plan to
immediately begin making SatMAX available as a part of our banking
industry sales effort. In addition, ERF Wireless is also involved in a
number of large municipal and other enterprise-class deployments and
we plan to introduce SatMAX into those applications where
appropriate."
John Burns, CEO of the ERF Wireless Enterprise Network Services
subsidiary, commented, "ERF Wireless provides banks with the next
generation of communications networks through our BranchNet Enterprise
Network solutions. The SatMAX product of Eagle Broadband appears to
fit nicely into the disaster recovery part of such a network to
provide an uninterrupted source of voice communications between key
bank officials when other voice circuits have failed in an emergency.
The high-speed telecommunications infrastructure networks for banks
being implemented by ERF Wireless provide both redundancy and
expansion of computer LAN and WAN technology, while allowing banks to
own or lease their own networks versus making expensive, never-ending
payments to traditional telecommunications providers. The SatMAX
product will add that final level of redundancy that many of the banks
are requesting."
Burns went on to note that the demand for retail banking products,
redundancy, disaster recovery, item imaging, image clearing, fast
Internet access and bank security is on the rise. "Our target is the
1,732 community and regional financial institutions in the U.S. that
have assets up to $10 billion and an average of 18 branch locations,"
said Burns. "We believe that SatMAX is an appropriate addition to the
disaster recovery plan for many of these financial intuitions."
