                   ABERDEEN ASSET MANAGEMENT PLC ("ABERDEEN")

Aberdeen notes recent press speculation regarding a potential divestiture of its
property investment management business, Aberdeen Property Investors ("API"), to
The British Land Company PLC ("British Land").

Aberdeen is currently in detailed discussions with British Land in relation to a
number of alternative structures for the sale of the whole or part of API.  The
potential value received will be dependent on the eventual structure of any deal
and, at the present time, no guidance can be given by Aberdeen regarding the
expected valuation.  A binding agreement has not been entered into at this time
and there is no certainty that such an agreement will be entered into.

A further announcement will be made in due course.
