TOKYO--Japan's Defense Ministry said projectiles fired by North Korea Wednesday may be ballistic missiles and that they pose a threat to regional security.

"North Korea's repeated firing of ballistic and other missiles poses a grave problem for our nation and the entire international community," the ministry said.

It said the projectiles didn't enter Japanese territory and weren't believed to have landed inside the nation's exclusive economic zone. The ministry said it was continuing to gather information about the projectiles.
