NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Four attorneys from global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP presented at the IMN 17th Annual Winter Forum on Real Estate Opportunity & Private Fund Investing, Jan. 22-24, in Laguna Beach, CA. The conference focused on the commercial real estate (CRE) industry, its deal flow, investment opportunities, and investment strategies.

Eric V. Rowen, co-chair of the firm's Real Estate Litigation Practice and chair of the Western Region Real Estate Litigation Group, moderated "Keep Calm & Carry On? The 2020 U.S. & Global Macro-Economic Outlook & What It Means for CRE." The discussion reviewed trade war, tariffs, and yield curve inversion impact; navigating the political environment; and Brexit and the potential banking crises in Asia and the EU; as well as other related topics.

Sanford C. Presant, chair of the firm's Real Estate Funds Practice, participated on the panel, "How Are Managers Using Structure to Effectively Attract Capital? The Latest in Fees, Promotes, & Funding Structuring." The panel presented on seed funds and their structure, early investor incentives, programmatic joint ventures and club funds as alternatives to multi-investor funds, and disclosure standardization and transparency, among other topics.

Michael J. Baum, co-chair of the firm's Global Real Estate Practice, spoke on the panel, "Student Housing." The session covered assessing the economics of these deals, understanding demand drivers, locations that are underserved for expanded student housing, the main CRE investors, financing, regulation/compliance considerations, must-have amenities vs. nice-to-have, and future developments of mixed use-housing, among others.

Michael A. Aluko was a panelist on "Case Studies: What It Takes for Small-Medium Sized Funds to Secure Capital from LPs Today." The panel discussed how to navigate the LP community, investment strategy and differentiation, LPs' requirements at a fund/manager level, communication and engagement strategies, costs/timeframes, negotiation tactics, stumbling blocks and how they were overcome, and fundraising alternatives.
